چکیده

— The approximation of solutions of elliptic problems of order 2 î over twodimensional polygonal domains by the p-version of the finite element method is investigated. Optimal rates of convergence are established for the case when éléments possessing C ~ continuity are used. Résumé. — L'approximation des solutions de problèmes elliptiques d'ordre 2 î dans un domaine à deux dimensions est traitée par la version —p de la méthode des éléments finis. Buckling Analysis of Rectangular Functionally Graded Plates with an Elliptic Hole Under Thermal Loads

This paper presents thermal buckling analysis of rectangular functionally graded plates (FG plates) with an eccentrically located elliptic cutout. The plate governing equations derived by the first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) and finite element formulation is developed to analyze the plate behavior subjected to a uniform temperature rise across plate thickness. It is assumed that the ...

Application of Decoupled Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method to Solve Eigenvalue Helmholtz Problems (Research Note)

A novel element with arbitrary domain shape by using decoupled scaled boundary finite element (DSBFEM) is proposed for eigenvalue analysis of 2D vibrating rods with different boundary conditions. Within the proposed element scheme, the mode shapes of vibrating rods with variable boundary conditions are modelled and results are plotted. All possible conditions for the rods ends are incorporated ...

THE h × p FINITE ELEMENT METHOD FOR OPTIMAL CONTROL PROBLEMS CONSTRAINED BY STOCHASTIC ELLIPTIC PDES

This paper analyzes the h × p version of the finite element method for optimal control problems constrained by elliptic partial differential equations with random inputs. The main result is that the h × p error bound for the control problems subject to stochastic partial differential equations leads to an exponential rate of convergence with respect to p as for the corresponding direct problems...

Spectral Finite Element Method for Free Vibration of Axially Moving Plates Based on First-Order Shear Deformation Theory

In this paper, the free vibration analysis of moderately thick rectangular plates axially moving with constant velocity and subjected to uniform in-plane loads is investigated by the spectral finite element method. Two parallel edges of the plate are assumed to be simply supported and the remaining edges have any arbitrary boundary conditions. Using Hamilton’s principle, three equations of moti...

A posteriori error analysis of hp-version discontinuous Galerkin finite-element methods for second-order quasi-linear elliptic PDEs

We develop the a posteriori error analysis of hp-version interior-penalty discontinuous Galerkin finiteelement methods for a class of second-order quasi-linear elliptic partial differential equations. Computable upper and lower bounds on the error are derived in terms of a natural (mesh dependent) energy norm. The bounds are explicit in the local mesh size and the local polynomial degree of the...
